Firms urged to enter business awards in Shropshire

County businesses are being urged to follow the lead of last year’s winners and get their entries in for this year’s prestigious Shropshire Business Awards.

Luxury confectioners, Champion and Reeves, scooped the Best New Business award in 2016 and have gone on to have a hugely successful year, complete with a recommendation from royalty.
Prince Andrew visited the firm’s base at the Shrewsbury Food Enterprise Centre in March, and said that products made by the company were enjoyed by the royal family at Clarence House during Christmas.
Sponsors of the Best New Business category at Shropshire Business Awards, Good2Great, are urging people to enter before the deadline on May 5.
This will be the 17th year the awards have been organised by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce – they are free to take part in and firms are not limited to a number of categories they can enter.
Johnny Themans, director at Good2Great, which is based in Bridgnorth and helps businesses to grow and succeed, said it was vitally important for firms to get their entries in as the deadline was getting ever nearer.
“This is a great opportunity to recognise the very best the Shropshire business community has to offer,” he said. “The awards are always well supported and it is wonderful to be able to reward firms who work so hard to develop their business.
“Good2Great is proud to sponsor the Best New Business category again this year. Last year we presented the award to Champion and Reeves, a Shrewsbury-based company which manufactures 100 per cent natural premium confectionery.
“Since winning the award the company has taken on an additional four staff to strengthen its commitment to future growth, and even came in for high praise from the royal family.
“When Prince Andrew visited the firm, he told them that their products had been on the piano at Clarence House over Christmas – quite an accolade for a new business!”
Closing date for entries is 5pm on Wednesday, May 5 and shortlisted businesses will be announced on Wednesday, May 17. Judging site visits will take place week commencing May 22.
