EVENT – Telford Hamfest, Sunday 3 September 2017
Telford Radio societies 12th annual ‘Hamfest’ radio and electronics event takes place at Enginuity buildings on September 3rd.
Telford Radio Society once again is running the Telford Hamfest, a radio and electronics event at Enginuity buildings Coalbrookdale on Sunday September 3rd. This year there are 3 guest speakers alongside the major amateur radio suppliers and many other sales tables. The entry fee is £4 but free to accompanied children of school age.
The event is also linked to a national society G-QRP’s mini-convention and ‘Buildathon’ at the Holiday Inn Telford on the previous day.
The world of Amateur radio is all about communicating with new and old technology and electronics and it’s coming to the Enginuity buildings in Coalbrookdale. The annual event has indoor and outdoor sales tables with radio and electronic components for sale, including a ‘Bring and Buy’ stand. Visitors will see demonstrations of radio communication, military equipment, mini-computers and digital data decoding.
This year’s special feature is three technical lectures including Dave Pick, G3YXM, presenting “21 years of LF: a potted history of UK Low Frequency operation”. Also Dom Baines M1KTA will speak on the topic “QRP and making antennas when in DX”. Finally, Paul Darlington M0XPD has chosen to speak on the slightly cryptic topic “The Little Rigs That Could”
Around 500 visitors come from all over the country for this annual event held at the heart of the industrial revolution’s beginnings. The hobby itself has been the source of many modern day technological discoveries, like digital communications and radio development work. It also comes to the fore in emergencies, like Hurricane Harvey recently and locally the Long Mynd hike in October.
Entrance £4.00 from 10:15am onwards (free entry for school-age children accompanied by an adult)
Discounted entry to Enginuity for all Hamfest visitors
