A poignant, free exhibition of 37 life-sized silhouettes of women has been installed on The Green at Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, one of the 10 Ironbridge Gorge Museums in Shropshire, marking the centenary of women’s right to vote and the continued inequality that existed for a further 10 years.
Everyone in Britain was affected by the Great War and huge numbers of the population were keen to find ways to help the war effort. For some this meant raising money for the Soldiers’ Comfort Funds or knitting socks.
Meadowdale Nurseries in Telford have announced today that they will be welcoming a very special guest to their garden centre throughout the festive period. Father Christmas will be visiting every weekend from the 25th November until the 23rd December and will be seeing children from 12pm to 4pm. There will be a small charge of £5 per child, which includes a present and there is no need to pre-book.
Thousands of people flocked to the Telford Centre to watch a spectacular light switch-on fun day, marking the start of the festive season.
The action packed programme of enchanting events started at 11am, leading up to the Christmas lights switch from Signal 107 DJ Dicky Dodd and Santa Claus at 5pm.
Staff at environmental education centre FSC Preston Montford near Montford Bridge are getting ready for an open day on Saturday 18th November to celebrate the centre’s 60 years of providing opportunities for people of all ages to discover, explore, and understand more about the natural world.Poppy and Jonathan having been practicing wreath making using willow from the estate ready for one of the activity sessions on Saturday. There will also be birdfeeder making sessions, guided walks at 11, 12 and 1pm and an introduction to tree identification – something for all the family.

Food historian and TV and radio presenter Dr Annie Gray will be giving a festive-themed talk looking at Christmas in mid-Victorian times through the eyes of Isabella Beeton. Taking place in the Engine Shop at Coalbrookdale on Monday evening, 27th November, ‘Mrs Beeton’s Christmas’ is part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
